PAX Will Be Among Us!

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Well, after not having written for about 3 months now, I am back, and PAX will be among us! How exciting is that? I went to Comic Con and Anime Expo this summer, and neither of those were as fun or as enticing as PAX was, and will be. It’s good that I went–at least, I got to know what it’s like going to those other two conventions–but, I now know that, for the most part, there is only one major convention/expo/festival that really fancies me, and that’s the one that takes place during the sunniest time of the year in Seattle :)

I have not been posting lately! For that, I do apologise. I haven’t been on top of my blogging shenanigans, I’m afraid :(
I’ve been swamped at work, and with a bunch of schoolwork due every Sunday night, it’s sort of hard to find time to just sit down and breathe!

This weekend I’m heading out to LA~! Am very much looking forward to that. I love LA :]
End of this month, I’m going to Vegas, which I’m also looking forward to. I heard that Virgin America is like the partybus? I’m flying for the first time with it, so I’m very excited for that. AND it’s a flight into Vegas! Hahaha Vaishnavi and I are gonna hop off the plane happy ;)

… and then nothing really exciting after that!
The only thing that sucks about weekend getaways is that my homework for my online classes are always due on Sunday night–which is retarded to me. It should be due on Monday nights because that’s more like a school schedule right? But nooo, they’re due on Sunday nights, so if I’m out for a weekend, I have to make sure I finish my homework before I leave. Which I guess is good practice anyway, but still. :P I don’t like feeling rushed with my hw, and on top of having so much stuff to do at work, I really don’t need all that additional pressure to meet the deadline 3 days earlier, which really compromises the quality of my work. Boo.

What’s more exciting though is that I have 2 new hostees :) I won’t reveal them until they finish their sites, but wow! I’m super happy to be hosting again! :) It’s been awhile desune…
I need to launch my site as well! :O Ahh, so much to do, so little time~!

I recently started playing Audiosurf and it’s SO BOMB! *_* The colors! The music! The maps! They’re all so fun. If you have Steam, you should buy it!

Anddddddddd I’m thinking about starting an instant noodle blog :D I LOVE instant noodles~! Hohoho! Even though they’re absolutely bad for you, I can’t help it. They’re yummy and convenient P:

Planning Shenanigans

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Thank you for the feedback some of you gave me (especially on the funky font issue!). I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s an anti-alias setting that makes Lucida Sans (Unicode?) look awful on some computers. I haven’t checked it out on Vista yet, but would LOVE a screenshot if anyone would be willing to provide one :)

I’m still bugged to NO END that it looks so awful on IE 5.5 and below, and that the navigation is just off in IE6 + IE7. Will be working to fix that! (freakin’ IE … *mumble*)

AND! I looked at my stats and it seems that 13% of you are using IE– of that, 23% of you use IE6. :( For the love of the internet, please use Firefox or IE7! D:

Anyway …

Sooo, that packaging design class I was gonna take? It got canceled! What the heck? It’s okay I guess, it just means it wasn’t meant to be. :( I’m already taking a lot of online classes anyway:

At Santa Monica College:

  • GR DES 34 | Publication and Page Design I: Section 2234
  • GR DES 64 | Digital Imaging for Design: Section 2242
  • CIS 58 | Designing Accessible Websites: Section 1413
  • CS 80 | Internet Programming: Section 1625

… Which all sound fun, actually O_O;;

And at Foothill College, GID 51: Graphic Design II. All of which are all online. Fun! I really hope I can drop at least one of these, I really don’t think I have time to take ALL of these classes AND do work stuff AND do freelance stuff AND have leisurely time for myself–at least, not without some consequences…

Here’s a nice little story to cheer anyone up who has sort of lost any semblance of optimism/confidence in people:
Last Friday, I lost my driver’s license + credit card between leaving one bar and going to another that was about a mile away. I was trying to frantically find it, but it seemed hopeless. We could not find it anywhere. I thought I was playing with it in the car and thus thought I’d left it in there, but it wasn’t! :( We wandered up and down the street, then went back to the first bar to see if I’d left it there, didn’t find it, and just accepted that I’d probably lost it forever and ever.

I canceled my credit card and scheduled an appointment with the DMV to get a replacement ID. However, the following Friday, the day I’d made the appointment for, I had a feeling that I should call Vy and see if my ID got sent back (my address on there is her address)… but then got lazy and decided against it. Went to the DMV, waited for about 10 minutes after getting my ticket, got an interim driver’s license and was $22 poorer when I left.

Later that night, I went over to her house to hang out because she was moving to LA the next day, and I noticed, on my family’s stack of mail on their dining table, was this rather scrabbly, handwritten envelope, taped together with black electrician’s tape. It was addressed to me, and the return address? “I found this on Valencia.” I opened it, and sure enough, it was my credit card and ID, both sort of beaten up from being on concrete, but still! Wow. I was so happy :) Thank you, whoever sent it back to me! But now I’m gonna get an ID withOUT the red bar indicating that I’m turning 21 in 2005 … :X

PAX is back
, and the registration page is open! I am totally going again this year. :) Seattle, I can’t wait to see you again <3
An Event Apart is also back, except I’m not sure if I can convince my manager to let me go again this year … we’ll see :X I mean, really, one way to look at it is that it’s training for me! It just happens to cost about $800 (with the AEA alumni discount) :X

Anddd the room for Carmel is all set! We’re staying at the Santa Lucia suite in Carmel Valley Ranch. So romantic ^_^ Dinner reservations made and activities plan sort of settled! We really needed a trip like this.

John Edwards and Rudy Giuliani ended their bids! :| Rumor’s flying that Edwards is endorsing … Hillary?! Uh, strange? But Giuliani and maybe even Schwarzeneggar are endorsing McCain. Of the Republicans, I think I like McCain the most … even though he is an old fart XD

On that note, Jennie, Monique, Chelle, and I are reviving … Are youuuu?

meloncollie ’08!

(feels like it’s a presidential campaign :P )

Official First Full Semester as a GDES student … O_O

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

So I had a taste of all my classes already. I’m excited to actually formally learn graphic design! :) The professor for the Image and Branding class is the director of the Graphic Design Department at Mission, and it’s supposed to be “award-winning,” as in students from her class have won in international competitions and stuff. Intense!

Anyhow, I asked her about my dilemma and she said I simply needed to develop a strong portfolio and I’ll be good to go. Getting an AA is not necessary, although I could  get a certificate if I really wanted to. That’s not a bad idea, right? Worse case scenario I get a certificate. Best case, I get into an MFA program. Woooooooo!

I also have decided that I really want to go to grad school in SF. 2 years isn’t bad right? And I get a taste of what SF is really all about.

I’m just happy that my career goals are slowly but surely coming into fruition. Now to kick ass at these classes and make stuff!
