Hau I Roll! Clever, huh?

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Hello! Welcome to my newly designed blog, a labor of love that began with a punny blog name, and ended with me spending 6 hours drawing in Illustrator, and another 9 hours coding!  Things are still a little dusty around here, so let me know if you find any bugs or inconsistencies.

One of my resolutions this year was not only to finish my portfolio site, but also to finish my blog layout(s). Seeing as how having 2 public blogs is sort of redundant, I’ve imported everything I had at http://blog.meloncollie.net, to here. I’m well on my way to getting all the little things that I was supposed to have done ~2 years ago, done!

The artwork in the banner is based on a drawing I did, combining my love for gaming and my love for … rolling dice? (Click to view a larger version in my DeviantArt!)

Hau She Rolls

Also, I will be trying out a new thing for 2010, starting a month late due to design delays: Blogging every single day, from February 1st, 2010 until January 31, 2011. It’s hard as it is to get me to blog even once a month, and I find that to be a crying shame. There’s definitely something worth writing or sharing everyday, so this attempt from me to make a post every day should help keep a record of what my life was like in the year 2010 :)

With that said, keep your eyes peeled for new posts in the near future!

Bay Area Laundry List

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Well, it’s (somewhat) official: I have about 50 days left in the Bay.

And, it has dawned on me: I haven’t done a lot of the things that I wanted to do, ever since I moved here!

What the hell, right?

So here, I will post all the things I need want to do before my big move on June 17. Comment below if you’re up for trying these things out with me! :)

  • Maker Faire – May 30 & 31, 2009 – San Mateo County Expo Center
    Tickets: $30 for adults (21+), $20 for students (17-20)
  • Hiking – An early Saturday or Sunday morning – Either in Santa Cruz, alongside Peninsula, or SF.
(This guide is for my own reference!) I am thinking a brisk hike (~2 miles/way), with a picnic lunch and a beautiful view.
  • Tataki Sushi - Any day (weekday or otherwise) – San Francisco
Sustainable sushi, the only one of its kind that I know of! The menu’s priced pretty fairly too, IMO.
  • Cheeseboard Pizza – Preferably weekend (Saturday/Sunday afternoon)
Because, believe it or not, I’ve never had it!
  • Santa Cruz Beach/Boardwalk – It’s been years!! How sad is that?
  • California Academy of Sciences - Am willing to take a day off for this (since I hear of its weekend craziness?!).
$24.95 for adults, $19.95 for students with ID. I’ve never been! While we’re at it, I’d like to visit the Exploratorium (nope, NEVER BEEN!), SF Zoo (maybe, though I am impartial to zoos :P ), and DeYoung. Woo hoo!

Look, I even made a nifty little calendar to show you my availability! EDIT Thanks for catching that, Geoff! D:

So! Let me know :)

Well! Look at what we have here.

This theme is so fantastic that I don’t think I’m actually going to recreate a new theme entirely from scratch. I’m going to have to edit the header image (I forget where I got it from, but thanks?), and edit the styles, but afterward, this site will be unforgettably Hau!

Oh, as if you were thinking that :P

Anyway, hang tight–I shall soon enough return with brand spankin’ new content (I mean, seriously though, who reads this?)

A Long Overdue Update!

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Hello all! I can’t believe it’s been two months since I posted here … ahh, I’m so stupid T_T Well, more like I really just hadn’t had the time, but you know what? That’s a really bad excuse, in my opinion :P

What I’ve been up to in the past two months?

  • I went vegetarian from April 19 to May 19. Wow, exactly a month! It was much more challenging than the last time I tried to do this. I was so happy to end it T_T
  • I’ve been working on a lot of random crap, for school and for work!
  • I bought an Xbox 360 with Grand Theft Auto IV and WiiFit
  • Which led me to force myself to not buying anything for myself for the entire month of May!
  • Which was subsequently stopped when the Victoria’s Secret Semi-Annual sale and Nordstrom Half Yearly sale came around the corner …
  • and I bought my first pair of awesome Rock & Republics :)

My very first pair of designer jeans that I actually bought for myself (not to sound all materialistic/snobby, but my brother and his girlfriend got me the other 3 that I have–Seven for All Mankind, Joe’s Jeans, and AG (Adriano Goldschmied) Jeans … none of which, to be quite frank, I’m all that thrilled about, but accept and wear quite graciously)! I snapped a picture of the stitching:

It’s so gorgeous! The gold thread is simply luminous and vibrant. This is the Kasandra boot cut denim, in Grievance Policy. I also got a pair in Grievance Manuel, but they don’t fit me! Oh well, these are ballin’ as it is ;)

GTA4 is freakin’ awesome. I have yet to beat game (I think I’m only at 40% or less), but it’s so flippin’ fun. Niko Bellic’s character definitely helps add to the lure of the game, too. I love his smart-assery.

In other exciting news, Justin is officially a UCLA Bruin. I’m so proud of him. He’s such an incredible nerd! He barely tries in school and gets A’s … it could just be that JCs are that easy to him, but I actually really think he’s just that smart :P Anyway, I’m mostly excited for him. People have asked me what I’m going to do, as if it’s the end of the world for us, but you know what? It isn’t! I’m gonna work really hard here so that I can potentially move down with him in the next year, so we’ll be separate for a little while. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of challenges that would present us.

I should start writing here more often. Again.

One last bit of (semi?) big news: We rescued a kitten last week! Well, Justin’s stepdad did. When we first saw her, her eyes were so horribly infected that she would have the hardest time opening them, she was all skin and bones and was barely able to walk. We’ve been nursing her back to health, feeding her formula milk for kittens and taking her to the vet. Now she’s much bigger, there’s actually meat on her bones, and she is SO active it’s almost annoying. She’s learning how to control her claws (or at least learning more about her claws), teething like crazy, uses the litter box, can eat solid foods better, and loves to play with her own reflection. We just leave her alone in the kitchen and she tires herself out by all the crazy things to explore. She especially loves the wall-length vertical blinds and the mirrored dining table legs. Haha.

Anyway, we named her Sakura :) But we’re not keeping her. We’re just holding her until she’s fully healthy (she has some upper respitory problems as well as an eye infection). We’ll probably have her sprayed and vaccinated before we really try to give her away. Aww. I’m gonna miss her. :(

Here are some pictures of her:

“What’s that?”

The bluest eyes you’ll ever see ;)

Busy Busy Bee!

Monday, March 10th, 2008

I’m sorry for the lack of detailed updates! I’ve been so awfully busy lately that I hardly have had time to sit down and compose a thoughtful entry :( But I promise, the next update will include lots of luscious pictures for your enjoyment ;)
