D&D Virgin–No More!

I am terribly behind on updates–it’s been a crazy couple of weeks, and I don’t wish to fall any further behind than I already have!
Read more after the jump!
We met up at around noon on Saturday morning (March 21st). After a brief (brunch) at Jersey Mike’s Subs (never, ever, EVER get the chicken parmegian! No matter how tasty it sounds, ours turned out lukewarm and lackluster!), we headed back to the DM’s apartment. We spent a little bit of time hacking away at our character sheets. The program we used was rather nifty–all the data from the handbook/edition of your choice is readily available. You basically just have to click, click, click, and bam! Your character is created. What’s even cooler is that it produces a PDF-like file from which you can print out not only your character sheet, but each ability your character has is printed on a card template. That way, after you cut them out, you will basically have all your character’s abilities in front of you during the game. AWESOME!
We began the campaign a little before 3:00 PM. Much mayhem and learning ensued, as we adjusted to the rules and going-ons of the game, as well as to each other’s characters. Here’s the roster:

Excuse our unorthodox use of unrealistic figurines (which, I know for sure, Andy would totally shun me for such a thing), but we weren’t prepared enough
From left to right:
- Albert played Penny, a male (who looks like Felicia Day, apparently) human cleric;
- Justin played Kayleth, a male Elf ranger;
- I played Aedia, a female Elf wizard
- Isaac played Nexxus, a female Tiefling warlock;
- Dave played Ashe, a male Elderin ranger;
Our first adventure involved getting rid of a “kobold problem.” We trudged through 3 rooms in a dungeon before meeting our near-death in the very last room. We took a two hour break for dinner at Hong Kong Cafe, before continuing our quest. Once we arrived upon the last room, discovering the danger that awaited us, we decided to head back to town to rest up and gear up. The truth? It was 5:30 AM by the time we got to that point, and we desperately wanted to sleep
On Sunday, we met up for ramen at Santouka in Mitsuwa, after which we headed back to Paul’s apartment to complete our adventure … and we still haven’t leveled up to Level 2.
Overall, I had quite an enjoyable experience. Since it was all of our first times playing 4E (and for some of us, first time playing pen-and-paper in general), we weren’t able to role-play as much, though the second day we saw more of it come out (at least, I think we did–it could just be the Player being themselves instead
). Since conception of this entry, I’ve been asked by another friend to join his 2E campaign–a far less n00b-friendly edition, but since the focus will be on role-playing, I am definitely interested
I need to create another character and write her story. Inspiration, cometh! But I also think my 4E party members also had a good time, so hopefully we can continue the campaign. It’s just difficult to since we are mostly split between the Bay Area and LA
Now, off I go to character creation!

I am a 25-year-old web and graphic designer located in sunny-but-oh-so-smoggy Los Angeles, California. I love games of all sorts (video, board, RP, etc), eating, designing, reading, writing, drawing, and eating! I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2007 with a B.A. in English. Now I'm attending Cal State LA, working on a post-bac degree for graphic design. Nice to meet you!

we could also do it pa style and webcam it!
Starbuck? Itachi? Wha?
@Penny – TRUE! We could

@Andrew – I know, our cast is awesome. Except Itachi became Sakura at some point, since … well, since Penny is a girlish guy. Apparently.
